On July 2, 2020, the committee organized its first virtual meeting on the topic of The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS): Understanding the US Foreign Investment Screening Process. In recent months, both the United States and the European Union have heightened measures to control foreign investment. While these measures are designed to protect national security, but they may also have a severe impact on transatlantic trade and investment.

Three engaging speakers discussed recent developments regarding controls on foreign investment and how to successfully navigate these controls on both sides of the Atlantic with members of the Corporate and Business Law Committee.

We thank Dr. Julia Pfeil, Partner at Dentons Europe LLP; Mr. Josh Jungman, Deputy Director at the Office of Investment Security Policy and International Relations of the U.S. Department of the Treasury; and Mr. James Cerven, Foreign Service Officer at the Office of Investment Affairs – International Finance Division, Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, for their time and insights on this important topic.
