Tax Committee Meeting with Lothar Binding, MdB and Michael Wichmann, Federal Ministry of Finance

Berlin, April 26, 2017: AmCham Germany’s Tax Committee met with Lothar Binding, MdB, Finanzpolitischer Sprecher der SPD-Bundestagsfraktion and Martin Wichmann, Referatsleiter, Referat IVB2 (DBA-Grundsatzfragen), Bundesministerium der Finanzen, to talk about the latest developments regarding tax policy. Amongst the issues discussed were the current developments with regard to public Country-by-Country-Reporting and the implementation of the BEPS Action Items as well as the developments in the US concerning a tax reform. Mr. Wichman provided Committee Members with a concise overview on the development of a multilateral instrument (BEPS Action Item 15) and commented on the tax challenges of the digital economy. During the meeting with Mr. Binding, he mentioned that the Bundestag will pass the Steuerumgehungsbekämpfungsgesetz, a law to combat tax evasion and tax avoidance on April 27, 2017. He also stated that the SPD is currently still working on its position for the Bundestagswahl with regard to tax policy but will promote a fair and transparent tax system.
