Expert Briefing on Trans-Atlantic Cyber and Privacy Incidents

Under the motto “Transatlantic Cyber and Privacy Incidents: Preparation, Response and Law”, on February 27th AmCham Germany hosted a well-attended panel discussion in cooperation with the renowned law firm Debevoise & Plimpton LLP at the Frankfurter Hof.

A premier law firm with strong New York roots, but one which also possesses a global perspective and cross-border approach, Debevoise was the perfect partner regarding this issue as threats are global in origin and indifferent to national borders.

Jeremy Feigelson, Partner in Debevoise’s New York office, Dr. Thomas Schürrle, and Dr. Friedrich Popp, Managing Partner and Senior Associate, both in Debevoise’s Frankfurt office, updated a highly motivated audience on the new challenges and costs companies must face when confronted with data breaches.

As global criminal activity continues to increase, risk assessment becomes increasingly important. In an interactive round with the referees and the audience, examples were presented and discussed. One noteworthy conclusion of the expert briefing was the fact that the US is four to five years ahead of Germany in managing and reacting to cyber attacks.

After the informative portion of the event, the experts and participants engaged in a lively discussion and mingled over food and drinks until the late hours of the evening.
