More than 300 guests from business and politics gathered at the New Year's Reception of AmCham Germany in Düsseldorf. Its chair Dr. Alexander Schröder-Frerkes, NRW Minister of Transport Hendrik Wüst and AmCham Germany President Frank Sportolari emphasized the importance of German-American relations in their speeches. They also spoke about the efforts required to defend freedom and democracy. Schröder-Frerkes appealed for Germany and Europe to be viewed positively again. "Germany and Europe stand for 75 years of peace, freedom and prosperity. Let us seek solutions with much common ground and expertise." Wüst also advocated a rapprochement in Europe as an opportunity to form a counter-pool against the new centres of power in China, the USA and Russia.
