In light of revitalizing the transatlantic relationship, the fourth instalment of AmCham Germany's virtual event series Transatlantic Talks 2021 focused on transatlantic trade policy. On the topic of “Is the Partnership in Transatlantic Trade Back? Bridging Policy Differences and Leveraging Common Ground to Revitalize Transatlantic Commerce,” our panelists discussed topics such as transatlantic security policy in Afghanistan, the Boing/Airbus trade dispute, U.S.-EU steel and aluminium tariffs, further tariff and non-tariff trading barriers as well as travel restrictions for European businesses in the U.S. Despite various sources of tension in transatlantic trade, all speakers agreed that transatlantic dialogue is developing in a positive way. Especially the upcoming elections in Germany and the establishment of an EU-U.S. Trade and Technology Council (TTC) would enable opportunities for new trade cooperation and foster a positive agenda for future transatlantic exchange.
