Is the Partnership in Transatlantic Trade Back?

Transatlantic Talks Event on August 25, 2021, with Joseph Crowley, Dr. Hans-Ulrich Engel, Simone Menne and Dr. Christian Nordholtz

In light of revitalizing the transatlantic relationship, the fourth instalment of AmCham Germany's virtual event series Transatlantic Talks 2021 focused on transatlantic trade policy. On the topic of “Is the Partnership in Transatlantic Trade Back? Bridging Policy Differences and Leveraging Common Ground to Revitalize Transatlantic Commerce,” our panelists discussed topics such as transatlantic security policy in Afghanistan, the Boing/Airbus trade dispute, U.S.-EU steel and aluminium tariffs, further tariff and non-tariff trading barriers as well as travel restrictions for European businesses in the U.S. Despite various sources of tension in transatlantic trade, all speakers agreed that transatlantic dialogue is developing in a positive way. Especially the upcoming elections in Germany and the establishment of an EU-U.S. Trade and Technology Council (TTC) would enable opportunities for new trade cooperation and foster a positive agenda for future transatlantic exchange.

We thank Simone Menne, President of AmCham Germany; Dr. Christian Nordholtz, AmCham Germany Regional Chapter Chair Lower Saxony; Joe Crowley, former Congressman and Chairman of the Democratic Caucus; Dr. Hans-Ulrich Engel, Vice Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, BASF SE as well as Melanie Vogelbach, Managing Director International Economic Policy at the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK), for this very fruitful discussion! A special thank you to the generous sponsorship of BASF SE for supporting this event.
