AmCham Germany Social and Labor Affairs Committee Deliberates On The Future of Work

On January 23, 2018, the AmCham Germany Social and Labor Affairs Committee held its first committee meeting of 2018. The meeting was chaired by Caroline Bitsch, JUSTEM Rechtsanwälte (via phone), and Nils Hullen, IBM Deutschland, who was welcomed as the new additional Chair for the Committee.

The committee met with Philippe Lorenz of the Stiftung Neue Verantwortung to discuss a published paper on the topic of "The Future of Work and the Trans-Atlantic Alliance". The speaker highlighted key points of the publication, including the state of the debate in the U.S. and Germany, digitalization of work processes as well as a detailed view on impacted sectors in both countries. Finally, he presented some concrete pathways forward to shape these developments. A lively debate among the committee members followed, which concluded that the transatlantic alliance holds much potential, especially in the field of education and life-long learning. The committee will evaluate how it can contribute in creating a framework for a transatlantic exchange with the aim to increase further cross-country collaboration.
