Transatlantic Networking Roundtable for Economic Development Organizations (EDOs)

On Wednesday, September 7, 2022, AmCham Germany hosted an exclusive Transatlantic Networking Roundtable for its members from Economic Development Organizations (EDOs) from Germany and the United States.

The event was kicked off by welcome remarks from U.S. Consul General Norman Thatcher Scharpf and was followed by an opening statement from AmCham Germany’s General Manager, Daniel Andrich.

Two input speakers, Dr. Jana Dorband, Regional Senior Investment Specialist at the U.S. Embassy Berlin, and Dr. Marcus Schmidt, Director Chemicals & Life Sciences at Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI), shared insights from their respective organizations on transatlantic opportunities for EDOs and how to facilitate German-American trade relations. The event was moderated by Thomas Henneberg, Head of Membership Engagement & Events at AmCham Germany.

During the event, participants had the chance to share relevant topics for discussion, including best-practices to pave the way for more transatlantic cooperation in trade and investment promotion. Together, joint opportunities but also obstacles were identified, that will need to be overcome to further strengthen the already deep and long-running economic partnership between Germany and the United States. Companies from both sides of the Atlantic have created more than a million jobs in transatlantic business, with economic development organizations being a key facilitator in opening up market access for investment opportunities.

The discussion made clear that continued transatlantic cooperation and deepened collaboration among EDOs is crucial in order to strengthen U.S.-European business and investment overall.

With the EDO networking roundtable, AmCham Germany intends to offer its EDO members a platform to come together, take a closer look at Germany and the U.S. as business and investment locations, while providing an exclusive opportunity for members to expand their professional network among fellow EDO representatives.

We are grateful for each one of our members who participated in this event, helping this first transatlantic networking roundtable to become a success. This format is set to be continued in the years to come.
