Traditional Thanksgiving Dinner in Düsseldorf

On November 29, 2022, AmCham Germany's Regional Chapter North Rhine-Westphalia had the honor of welcoming guests from various industries in the Hyatt Regency Düsseldorf to celebrate Thanksgiving and enjoy a lively evening with great speakers and inspiring conversations.

AmCham Germany’s President Simone Menne together with Regional Chapter Chairs Theresa Winkels and Frank Jørgensen welcomed our guests gathered in celebration of this American tradition. U.S. Consul General Pauline Kao used the occasion to underscore the longstanding history of Thanksgiving and shared insights into German-American cooperation in 2023, emphasizing the start of the NRW-USA Year.

Silke Krebs, State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Action and Energy in the State Government of North Rhine-Westphalia, highlighted the importance of North-Rhine Westphalia as a business location and stressed the strong transatlantic footprint in her state. Similarly, Dr. Stephan Keller, Mayor of the City of Düsseldorf, shared how the transatlantic business community has evolved in North-Rhine Westphalia’s capital, which is reflected in the NFL opening its official office for Germany in the city.

After these initial remarks, the dinner was preceded by a keynote speech from Dr. Alexander Steinforth, who recalled his experience from the first NFL game in Germany and showed how the NFL plans to expand in the German market. He particularly emphasized the NFL’s commitment to local engagement, specifically mentioning talent development programs in the Düsseldorf region. 

This event marked the kick-off for our new Chapter Chair tandem Theresa Winkels and Frank Jørgensen, who officially took over from our long-standing chair Dr. Alexander Schröder-Frerkes.
