The game is changing and not only in the private sector! High school graduates are now facing fierce competition when applying to top universities and colleges around the globe. In addition, companies are looking for employees with strong backgrounds in science, technology, economics and mathematics –STEM subjects where supply doesn’t meet industry demand. How does an international school like FIS prepare its students to meet these challenges?

Students need timely and qualified advice to help them discover their talents and interests. Our five FIS Upper School counsellors provide this guidance by getting to know students early on so they can not only help with subject choice, but also try to identify colleges suited to the students’ strengths. Many renowned universities, including Oxford, Notre Dame and NYU visit the FIS college fairs looking for student talent, which also allows students to consider potential choices.

Since good grades alone are no longer sufficient for admission to many top schools, FIS helps differentiate its students by facilitating student internships with well-known Frankfurt companies such as the Max Planck Institute or Accenture. FIS also provides its students with numerous leadership, service, athletic and performing arts opportunities to help set their university applications apart from the competition.

It is equally important that students have early access to subjects which focus on tangible jobs. At FIS, students get more than just a taste for engineering in the Design Technology department with its CAD/CAM offerings, robotics courses
and 3D printer. State-of-the-art labs and excellent science teachers foster an interest in the natural sciences which at FIS include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Health Science and Environmental Systems.

As one of the largest international schools in Europe, FIS is able to offer many more opportunities than schools of a smaller size. Seven foreign languages are taught within the school and students are also supported in their independentstudy of other languages. FIS offers unique programs in film, economics, dance and psychology, and is accessing online learning opportunities, as well.

Yes, the game is changing. However, our stellar record of acceptances to top universities and colleges around the world demonstrates that FIS remains ahead of the game.
