Berlin, August 21, 2020 – The American Chamber of Commerce in Germany (AmCham Germany) congratulates Joe Biden on being the 2020 presidential nominee of the Democratic Party. The economic partnership between Germany and the US should be high up on the agenda of a possible Biden Administration.

“Rebuilding trust on both sides of the Atlantic is key for succesful transatlantic trade and the prosperity of the German and US societies,” says Frank Sportolari, President of AmCham Germany. The Corona pandemic and the economic crisis resulting from it can only be resolved with the strength of the transatlantic partnership. “The next US Administration should prioritize open and value-based transatlantic relations to help international businesses with their recovery,” says Sportolari.

In his acceptance speech at the 2020 Democratic National Convention, Joe Biden emphasized: “We’ll never get our economy back on track if we don’t deal with this virus.” Accordingly, a reliable and strategic plan to manage the Corona pandemic is needed so the transatlantic economy can overcome the impacts of the crisis.

“Developing plans for businesses to ensure future investment in the US and Germany protects free trade. Protectionist measures do not provide a solution,” says Frank Sportolari. The US economy has benefited from international trade and an open investment climate not least because of the US being the most important trading partner in Europe.
