Expert Webinar on US Travel and Visa Bans

Topic: "Bridges and Walls: How can German Companies Send Employees to the US in This Time of Travel and Visa Bans?"

Shortly before the US election, CMS Hasche Sigle, Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath and AmCham Germany hosted a joint Expert Webinar on the current US travel and visa bans.

German companies operating in the United States used to frequently move German employees across the Atlantic, a key tool for managing local US operations. Common practices are no longer a given in times of COVID-19 with general travel restrictions. On top of these challenges, on June 22, 2020, President Trump declared a general ban on certain non-immigrant visas intended to protect the US labor market from competition by foreign workers under the slogan ‘Buy American – Hire American.’

In our expert webinar, US attorney Elaine Kumpula, Partner at Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath’s Michigan office, and US attorney Claire Nilson, Counsel at Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath’s London office, provided a highly interested audience of AmCham Germany members  and guests with valuable and detailed insights into what companies can do to continue to staff US operations with German employees. Dr. Maximilian Koschker, Counsel at CMS Hasche Sigle’s Stuttgart office, rounded up the discussion and added necessary considerations from a German employment law perspective.

The webinar was moderated by Dr. Andreas Lohbeck, Counsel at CMS Hasche Sigle’s Stuttgart office and a member of AmCham's NextGen Steering Committee.
