Participants included US Ambassador to NATO Kay Bailey Hutchison, Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette, Chief Executive Officer of the United States Chamber of Commerce Tom J. Donohue and former US Senator Joe Lieberman. Business participants included Stefan Oschmann from Merck, Christine Rupp from Deloitte and other large and medium-sized member companies. The luncheon took place at the Munich Security Conference as an official side event.

“Investing in each other’s markets, creating jobs and upholding Western values”

Frank Sportolari, President of AmCham Germany, stressed that although this year’s conference headed the motto “Westlessness,” the best way for transatlantic business to cooperate “is through investing in each other’s markets, creating jobs and upholding Western values.” In his introductory speech, Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette argued that business needs to be consistent with clean energy, noting that: “We need fair, transparent and open markets.” AmCham Germany views the participation of the high-ranking and large US delegation as a clear commitment to transatlantic relations. Company representatives from a range of different industries used the event to point out common challenges in trade relations and discuss how to pursue common goals in the future.
