On November 24, Willis Towers Watson and AmCham Germany hosted a joint online seminar on a high-interest topic: Employee Wellbeing: How Can German Companies Prepare for the Next Crisis?

Employees represent an important value and their wellbeing has a strong influence on a company’s business success. With roots dating back to 1828, Willis Towers Watson has a rich history of shared values with a focus on values such as teamwork, integrity and mutual respect. Today, the company remains one of the world’s largest employers of actuaries helping clients optimize employee benefits and cultivate talent.

Challenging times can have significant consequences for employees’ wellbeing. With COVID-19, the focus has shifted from benefits like pension schemes to the safety, health and wellbeing of employees.

In a highly informative presentation, Tanja Löhrke, Head of Health & Benefits Germany/Austria, and Raymond Catudal, Senior Consultant Health & Benefits, both at Willis Towers Watson’s Frankfurt office, provided an interested audience of AmCham Germany members with valuable insights into the potential impacts of the global pandemic. They took a close look at what employee wellbeing actually means in the face of the crisis and thoroughly depicted the different approach US and German companies are currently taking.

Finally, the two experts showed opportunities and suggested necessary steps for planning the new reality – a reality that will determine our future for some time to come.

In conclusion, employers will strengthen business results by developing a strategy that connects the physical, emotional, financial and social components of employees' wellbeing. Ms. Löhrke and Mr. Catudal rounded up the presentation with the advice that responding to and recovering from the current crisis is just a start. True leadership will be defined by the actions it takes to protect, preserve and sustain the human capital value.
