Berlin, November 6, 2019Former US Attorney General Eric Holder delivered a keynote address yesterday evening at the start of AmCham Germany’s Transatlantic Business Conference, which takes place on November 6 and 7, 2019 in Berlin with the motto “Building the Power to Compete in the 21st Century.”

Holder was the 82nd Attorney General of the United States and was also a potential candidate for the US Presidential Elections in 2020. He was appointed Attorney General by President Obama in 2009. Holder spent more than thirty years in various leadership positions in the US government under Presidents Obama, Clinton and Reagan. Today, he is a Partner at the American law firm Covington & Burling LLP.

In the week of the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, Holder warns of new walls being erected around the world: “It has been 30 years since the wall that divided this city came down. But tonight, there are new physical and metaphorical walls going up all around the world. And like 30 years ago, we need every citizen of the free world to help tear them down.” He calls on every individual to stand up against these walls and division and points to the unbreakable transatlantic partnership, which serves as the foundation for peace and prosperity: “[…] the same enduring alliance that has fueled prosperity for untold millions of Germans and Americans must impel those who benefit the most […] to stand up and speak out in this harrowing time.”
