In the context of intensifying geopolitical tension, the EU recently revamped its framework for screening foreign investments and released the agreed compromised text on February 10, 2026 (“New Foreign Investment Screening Regulation”). Less than a month later, on March 4, 2026, the European Commission unveiled its draft “Industrial Accelerator Act” in a bid to “boost manufacturing, grow businesses, and create jobs” in the EU. The draft seeks to put in place an additional, potentially parallel, review mechanism for investments in key strategic sectors, including electric vehicles. The draft goes beyond traditional national security and would mandate economic security measures to increase value and know-how creation in the EU.
