The Financial Services Committee engages in policy issues and discussions relating to financial developments on national, European and global levels. The Committee takes a special interest in the promotion of a business- and investment-friendly financial legal framework in Germany. Activities focus on developments in the banking and insurance industry, consolidation trends and bank assurance concepts on both the EU and national level. Additionally, trends and developments of the financial services sector in the United States are also closely monitored.

Committee Meeting with Dr. Paul Sheard in Frankfurt on September 11, 2013
The committee met with Dr. Paul Sheard, Executive Managing Director, Chief Global Economist and Head of Global Economics and Research of Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services. Dr. Sheard held a presentation which focused on cross currents in the global economy and examined the state of the US, the Eurozone, China and Japan in the aftermath of the global economic downturn. Members also discussed the potential repercussions of the Federal Reserve’s quantitative easing policy and risks to the first signs of global economic recovery.
Committee Meeting with Hiltrud Thelen-Pischke in Frankfurt on February 16, 2013
The committee met with Hiltrud-Thelen Pischke of PricewaterhouseCoopers at its Frankfurt offices. Ms. Thelen-Pischke's decades of experience in the field of banking regulation were apparent in her extensive presentation on the newest regulatory developments, including the "CRD-IV Umsetzungsgesetz" and the numerous pending regulatory measures on the EU level. Implications for Germany in particular were also discussed. Committee members had the opportunity to ask detailed questions on specific regulatory aspects.

The committee met with Prof. Dr. Andreas R. Dombret, member of the Executive Board, Deutsche Bundesbank to discuss the topic "Europäische Schuldenkrise - Ursachen und Lösungsansätze." Prof. Dr. Dombret shared his insights on the causes of and solutions to the European debt crisis and discussed the recent proposals for a banking union as well. Hans Reich, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Citigroup Global Markets Deutschland AG, delivered opening remarks on the subject. Rolf Maihöfer, committee co-chair, introduced Prof. Dr. Dombret to the committee.
Roundtable Luncheon and Discussion with AmCham EU in Frankfurt on October 11, 2012
The committee met with the delegation from the AmCham EU Financial Services and Company Law Committee and hosted Sabine Lautenschläger, Deputy President, Deutsche Bundesbank, who spoke on the recent proposals for a European Banking Union. Dr. Gunnar Schuster of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and member of the AmCham EU committee, delivered the opening remarks.

The committee met with Dr. Andreas Fillmann, Partner, Squire Sanders (US) LLP, Frankfurt, to discuss the Foreign Account Compliance Act (FATCA). James George Jatras, Principal, Squire Sanders Public Advocacy, LLC, Washington, D.C., presented on the related topic "Die Gemeinsame Erklärung und der Deemed-Compliant Status." Committee Meeting with Klaus Regling in Frankfurt on February 16, 2012
The committee met with Klaus Regling, CEO of the European Financial Stability Authority to discuss the topic "Lehren aus der Schuldenkrise – Europas Währungsunion wird krisenfest." Mr. Regling shared his insights on proposed reforms in member states and delivered a presentation in which the eight causes of the debt crisis were enumerated. Volker Sach, committee chair, outlined the topic and introduced Mr. Regling to the committee.
