The Financial Services Committee engages in policy issues and discussions relating to financial developments on national, European and global levels. The Committee takes a special interest in the promotion of a business- and investment-friendly financial legal framework in Germany. Activities focus on developments in the banking and insurance industry, consolidation trends and bank assurance concepts on both the EU and national level. Additionally, trends and developments of the financial services sector in the United States are also closely monitored.

Committee Meeting with Dr. Thomas Huertas in Frankfurt on June 10, 2011
The committee met with Dr. Thomas Huertas, Alternate Chair of the European Banking Authority to discuss the topic "Too Big to Fail." Dr. Huertas shared his insights on how bail-ins can best be undertaken through his presentation "Safe to Fail, not Too Big to Fail: Current Proposals for Bank Resolution." Markus Ronner, UBS Global TBTF Manager, offered his insights on the topic as well, including the role of Basel III. Dr. Martin Deckert, Chief Operations Officer and Member of the Board of Directors at UBS, delivered the introduction.
Joint Committee Meeting with Corporate and Business Law Committee in Frankfurt on November 19, 2010
The committee met with Thomas Mirow, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to discuss economic development in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development's support of German exports to CEE; perspectives for infrastructure projects and public-private partnerships in CEE; and the trends and outlook for the investment structure in CEE.
Roundtable Discussion in Frankfurt on November 4, 2010
Committee members engaged in a discussion with John Douglas, former General Counsel of the US Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and current partner at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP, on the Financial System in the US. Specific topics included: evaluation of the "Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act," enacted in July 2010; securities and insurance regulators; "too big too fail;" and Basel III and its implications for the US banking structure.
