Transatlantic Aerospace and Defense Committee Meeting with Ed Peartree

Berlin: On June 13, AmCham Germany’s Transatlantic Aerospace and Defense Committee and the US Embassy jointly organized a briefing on the US Export Control Reform in Berlin. Ed Peartree, Director of the US State Department’s Office of Defense Trade Controls Policy informed industry and government representatives on the status of President Obama’s initiative. The process, which started in 2010, has thus far resulted in the review and alteration of 18 USML categories and is expected to be finalized by year’s end.

Characterizing the decision on armaments exports as foreign policy decision, Mr. Peartree discussed specifics of commodity jurisdiction, export license request procedures and end-use monitoring regimes like the State Department’s Blue Lantern Program and the Commerce Department’s end-use checks.

AmCham Germany thanks the US Embassy in Berlin for their support in organizing this briefing.
