Business meets Politics to discuss 2016 Presidential Elections

Berlin: On June 30, AmCham Germany’s Berlin Chapter invited Karl-Georg Wellmann, MdB, CDU/CSU-Bundestagsfraktion and Frank Sportolari, President, UPS Germany to discuss the 2016 Presidential Elections and assess possible consequences to the transatlantic partnership.

While Karl-Georg Wellmann focused on the shared values and (security) interests on both sides of the pond, Frank Sportolari focused on the uniqueness of this year’s Presidential race: Hillary Clinton as the first female contester for the office and Mr. Trump as a candidate who has never held public office nor served in the military.

Participants expected Mrs. Clinton to continue the broad lines of President Obama’s (foreign) policy and voiced concerns over Mr. Trump’s announcements in regard to immigration, trade and foreign policies.

During the ensuing discussion, Mr. Wellmann asked industry representatives to more actively argue for the benefits of the proposed TTIP agreement and for a broader civil society engagement in general.

AmCham Germany thanks Mr. Wellmann and Mr. Sportolari for participating in this event.
