Klaus Liedtke
Member since the early Nineties
I am a member of the American Chamber, because…
… in the early Nineties I founded—as a public service project—a bilingual magazine promoting German-American student exchange (“Oscar’s”). For this project, under the patronage of former chancellor Helmut Schmidt, I secured the help of AmCham. The chamber supported the magazine in many ways and I have stayed a member of this great organization ever since.
What I like best about the US is…
… first, that this country is one of the most ambitious experiments in the history of mankind: A nation of all nations.
Second, that this nation has the capability and courage of always correcting itself.
And third, the wide, open spaces of the American west.
If I could improve something about the US, I would…
… eliminate the new 10 Dollar entry fee for all visitors to the US without a visa.
I love my job, because…
… it allowed me to see the world (from the ice fields of the Arctic to the jungles of India) and meet interesting people (from the president of the U.S. to the last remaining cannibals in Southeast Asia).
If I could fulfill a personal dream, I would…
… work on a famous archeological site such as in Troj or Stonehenge or in Israel/Palestine, hoping to make a sensational historic find. (And become the new Indiana Jones!)
